Is not easy for me to choose one
band or musician, but Dream Theater is one of my favorite band. This American
band of progressive metal was born with the name of Majesty in 1985 and it was finally
called Dream Theater.
One of the things I like of this band
is that all of the members are virtuous musicians. John Petrucci, the
guitarist, is considered one of the best guitar players. He has participated
many times in the G3. Mike Portnoy, the drummer, is one of the greatest
drummers and one of my favorites. Is incredible watch him, because his skills
are amazing. Complete the formation John Myung, virtuous bass player, Jordan
Rudess, the keyboardist that always innovate with new technology (like
continnum or iPad) and James LaBrie in the vocals. They create long and complex
songs or concept albums like “Scenes from a Memory”, where all the songs are
connected and seem like all the disc is one song of 77 minutes. Even they discs
are connected: the end of last song is the beginning of the first song of other
album, so you can hear hours of music like it was one song.
One of my favorite songs of Dream
Theater is Octavarium. I think this song allow to hear different sounds of the
band (but not all) in one song and the disc with the same name is one of my
favorite.
Recently, Portnoy left the band.
This is very sad and a great lost for the band, because the ability of Mike in
the drums and composition will be missed.
I left you with the song “A change
of Seasons”. A beauty, complex and amazing song like only Dream can do. Enjoy
it…
